About Falcons' Court

A program kept alive by educators, for educators.

Falcons' Court is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit based in Hayward, California. For roughly thirty years we have served as steward of Workshop in the Woods — a living-history Renaissance program with a history stretching back more than sixty years.

Origin

It started as a homeschool history lesson.

Workshop in the Woods was founded by Phyllis Patterson as a homeschool history project, focused on the European Renaissance and the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. What began with a small group of students has grown into a program that has reached generations of California schoolchildren.

Falcons' Court was formed to keep the program alive and bring it to schools that would not otherwise be able to host such an immersive experience. The organization now holds the intellectual property for the Workshop in the Woods name and curriculum.

Mission

Bring history to life — and back to the classroom.

Our mission is to make the Renaissance tangible for K-12 students through small-group, hands-on, expert-led experiences, and to give teachers a launching point for inquiry-driven classroom debriefs. Every aspect of the program is designed to complement, not replace, classroom instruction.

Falcons' Court is an educational non-profit of approximately thirty years, keeping alive the Workshop in the Woods program originally started as a homeschool history lesson over sixty years ago. Our educators are highly accomplished researchers passionate about their areas of expertise. The program uses living history presentations, crafts, physical activities, and exotic presentations, followed by Socratic seminar-style classroom debriefs.
